NASA operated two converted 747s to transport the space shuttle.  Boeing 747-100, N905NA started life in September 1970 with American Airlines as N9668. In July 1974 it was sold to NASA were it remains in service today.  Boeing 747-100, N911NA was sold to Japan Airlines in September 1973 as JA8117. It was back with Boeing registered as N747BL in April 1988. In October it was sold to NASA and numbered N911NA.

Polar Air Cargo, a subsidiary brand of Atlas Air Worldwide, has provided cargo lift for DHL for years.  Several 747-400F freighters have been operating for some time in hybrid Polar/DHL colors.  It was only fitting that one of the 747-8F freighters Atlas had on order would join the Polar/DHL operation.  N853GT was delivered in December 2012.

For a time, Air Hongkong operated a small fleet of Boeing 747-400BCF freighters on behalf of DHL on routes in Asia.  Three aircraft wore the hybrid DHL scheme depicted here.  A fourth aircraft is in the fleet (B-HKX), but it wears all-white markings.

In 1998, KLM converted two 747-206B SUD's into full freighters.  These two 747-206B had been previously converted into the stretched upper deck configuration like a 747-300.  These two 747's were marked in KLM Cargo markings wearing the moniker "Taking Things Further."  PH-BUH and PH-BUI served KLM Cargo until being transfered to Martinair Cargo in 2003, then joined Southern Air in 2006 and have since been retired.

China Airlines of Taiwan, call sign “Dynasty” unveiled their new “Plum Blossom” scheme back in 1995 which still serves their fleet exceptionally well. This set depicts this iconic scheme on their Boeing 747 fleet, including the 747-200s which briefly wore this attractive scheme. China Airlines also has the distinction of taking delivery of the last four passenger 747-400s off of the Boeing production line.
