In 1945, TWA's President Jack Frye traded his Lockheed 12A "Electra Junior" for this larger and more luxurious Lockheed 18 Lodestar as his personal transport. This was the sole L-18 operated by TWA, and it was used solely as the personal transport for Jack and Helen Frye.

The Lockheed 18 Lodestar was the first new multi-engined type for Alaska Star Airlines, and the first modern airliner in Alaska. The "Starliner Anchorage " NC 21707 was delivered new from Lockheed in August 1943 for service between Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. The set is designed for use with the Special Hobby Lodestar kit.

1:72 US Coast Guard LO-5 Lodestar

Coast Guard Air Station Brooklyn, New York, acquired this Lockheed Model 18 (R5O-1), Lockheed registration number 2008, on 14 May 1940. It was purchased for the tidy sum of $185,000, and it was used as a VIP transport for top executive officers of the Department of the US Treasury. The USCG later acquired other Lodestars. After the war, these were used primarily for administrative flights and were based at New York and Elizabeth City, North Carolina before the Coast Guard air station was established at Washington National Airport.

Mid-Continent Airlines were actually the launch customer for the Lockheed Lodestar, putting three of the Model 18-07's into service on "The Great Plains Route" flying from Tulsa,OK to Minot, ND with stops in between. The set is designed for use with the Special Hobby Lodestar kit.

Continental Airlines operated five Model 18-08 Lodestars powered by twin 1200hp Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp engines. Using the Special Hobby C-60 kit, and a match for the blue is Tamiya TS-15.
