As Piedmont continued to do well in the years following its successful fending off of a takeoff attempt by USAir, Piedmont Airlines expanded its international network.  To renew its fleet, the airline placed an initial order for 6 Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

Qatar Airways placed an order for 30 GE-powered 787-8's, and they will be the third carrier to place the new type in revenue service.  Qatar's current color scheme features a large Oryx on the tail over a gray fuselage with a white bottom and large  "QATAR " titles on the bottom.  The first Qatar 787 to be delivered, A7-BCB, was also the first Boeing aircraft to fly demonstration flights at the Farnborough Airshow since 1984 when it made an appearance at 2012's show.

Japan Airlines was the second operator to place the new 787 Dreamliner into service.  Continuing their tradition of special schemes, Japan Airlines was the first to mark a 787 as a  "theme plane " when on October 14, 2012 they unveiled JA828J in this  "Sora wo Tobu - Fly in the Sky " scheme.  With the cooperation of Miyazaki Hayao, famous Japanese Animation director, illustration of dream flying objects are placed both sides of this 787 Dreamliner.

An early pioneer of ETOPS operations with its Boeing 767-200 aircraft, TWA (Trans World Airlines) was also an early customer for the Boeing 787-8.  The initial aircraft (15 ordered) were delivered in the airline’s attractive globe scheme.

Seeking to expand its Pacific presence by starting service to smaller markets, Northwest Airlines placed an order for 18 Boeing 787-8's in May of 2005, with purchase rights for 50 more.  The aircraft were to be delivered in Northwest’s metallic silver colors.  Northwest has since been merged with Delta, and eventually, someday Delta will take delivery of the 787 but in Delta's colors.

Having deferred the Northwest Airlines order for 787-8’s that it inherited when the two airlines merged, Delta Air Lines later converted the order to the larger 787-9 variant.  The aircraft allowed Delta to finally phase out its massive 767 fleet.  This set includes a diagram on how to stretch the Hasegawa kit into a 787-9, or you can also use this set on a straight 787-8 build by deleting cabin windows fore and after of the wing.

Arke is a Dutch charter airline and part of the German travel conglomerate TUI.  The TUI group has ordered 13 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners for its various arms, the first of which went to Thomson.  Arke is now the second TUI airline to take delivery of a 787, with its first Dreamliner delivered in the early summer 2014.  This decal provides the markings for the three GEnX-powered 7878s in Arke colors.
