Leading up to the merger of Piedmont with USAir in the late 1980s, numerous Piedmont aircraft were repainted in a bare metal transition scheme.  Some were blue in color, and others were maroon and red.  Only one F-28, N273N (a -1000 model), received this scheme, which wore the blue version.

In March 1984, Piedmont Airlines took delivery of its first Fokker F28 Mk.1000.  Eventually, 20 of the aircraft would be delivered by Fokker.  Aircraft were delivered in Piedmont’s then current colors.  These Mk.1000s would be joined later by 25 stretched Mk.4000s, making Piedmont the world’s largest operator of F28s.  The Fokker fleet would continue to serve with USAir, following Piedmont’s acquisition by and merger with that airline.  This decal provides the markings for Piedmont’s F28.1000s.

In 1986, USAir purchased Piedmont Airlines.  The two airlines merged in August 1989.  Following the merger, most Piedmont aircraft operated for a time in basic Piedmont colors, but with the new USAir titles that were introduced with a new corporate branding for the merger.  This decal provides the markings for Piedmont’s Fokker F28 Mk.1000s with transition USAir titles..

In late 1985, Piedmont Airlines took delivery of its first Fokker F28 Mk.4000.  Eight of the larger Fellowships, ordered directly from Fokker, complimented Piedmont’s existing fleet of F28 Mk.1000s.  Aircraft were delivered in Piedmont’s then current colors.  The following year, Piedmont acquired Empire Airlines and its fleet of 17 F28.4000s, making the airline the world’s largest F28 operator (Piedmont would also go on to become the world’s largest Boeing 737 operator).  The aircraft would continue to serve with USAir, following Piedmont’s acquisition by and merger with that airline.  This decal provides the markings for Piedmont’s F28.4000s, including the transition markings worn by some of the Empire aircraft.
