The Bearcat was the second aircraft type the Blue Angels used, utilizing the F8F-1 between 1946 and 1950.  As an  "adversary " for the Blues,  a T-6 was used until 1949, later replaced by this F8F-1 called  "Beetle Bomb. "

Mira Slovak flew this all white F8F-2 Bearcat to victory in the very first Reno unlimited race in 1964.  Mira Slovak defected from Czechoslovakia on March 23rd 1953 as a CSA Airlines captain flying his C-47 to freedom in West Germany.  Living in the US, Mira made his living as a crop duster, then went on to race unlimited hydroplanes before being asked to fly this Bearcat owned by Bill Stead in the very first Reno air races.
