The natural choice to launch Lockheed’s L-500 civil version of the USAF’s C-5A Galaxy, Flying Tigers placed the first order for five frames what was then the world’s largest aircraft.  The initial aircraft were delivered in the airline’s arrow stripe scheme.  Use this decal with the Academy 1:480 scale C-5 kit.

Sponsored by Rockwell-Standard Corp, a pair of TWA pilots led a group who flew "Pole Cat" around the world via both poles in November 1965. Brand new and after only completing one revenue round trip for Flying Tigers,  N322F "Pole Cat" set eight world records, consumed 117,354 gallons of aviation fuel and carried 39 very lucky persons around the world in 51.5 hours flying time.

In 1945 Flying Tigers became the first scheduled cargo airline in the United States.  Starting in June 1968, Flying Tigers took delivery of five factory-new DC-8-63CFs which were emblazoned with large “Jumbo Jet” titles.  At that time, the “Stretch 8” was the largest passenger aircraft in service until the real jumbo jet, the 747 was rolled out a few months later in September 1968.   The “Jumbo Jet” titles were short-lived, and these five DC-8s eventually ended up with Cargolux and UPS.
