In 1999, Northwest painted ex-Varig DC-10-30 N237NW into a special  "Alliance " paint scheme to commemorate the new Alliance between Northwest and KLM.  Each side was a combination of the two paint schemes, but in reversed order side to side.  The scheme did not last long, and N237NW was painted back into the standard NWA  "Bowling Shoe " scheme.

Luton-based Monarch Airlines is one of the largest UK charter airlines.  Monarch operated a sole DC-10-30 G-DMCA between 1996 and 2003.  This DC-10 was retired and broken up in 2003 with the forward section of the fuselage surviving as an exhibit at the Aviation Viewing Park at Manchester Ringway Airport.

For a couple years prior to ceasing operations in 2001, Emery Worldwide Airlines operated 7 DC-10 freighters on behalf of Emery Worldwide Freight.  The DC-10s were chosen after Emery Worldwide had conducted an evaluation of Airbus A300B and Lockheed L-1011 freighters (operated by contract carriers).  The first aircraft (DC-10-10 N68041) was delivered in late 1999.

Following its acquisition of National Airlines in 1980, Pan American World Airways became a Douglas DC-10 operator.  The fleet included both the -10 and -30 variants, and eventually numbered 16 aircraft.

Lufthansa German Airlines operated a large McDonnell Douglas DC-10 fleet up until the 1990s.  Prior to retirement, most aircraft (though not all) were repainted in Lufthansa's now current color scheme.   Aircraft featured a white upper fuselage, light gray belly and wing engine nacelles, and dark blue tail and #2 engine.

Based in California, 10 Tanker Air Carrier operates the only two DC-10 fire bombers in the world. With its tank built by Erickson Air Crane capable of carrying 12,000 gallons (45,000 liters) of retardant, gel, foam, or water, the DC10 has consistently proven to be effective in both direct and indirect applications.

KLM DC-10-30s

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was a long time Douglas operator, and KLM was also an early operator of the DC-10-30.  KLM took delivery of their first DC-10 in 1974, and finally retired the last one in the early 1990s as the MD11s arrived.  PH-DTA also served as the prototype DC-10-30.
