In 1985, Pan American World Airways became the first U.S. airline to order the new Airbus A320.  The aircraft and corresponding delivery slots would eventually be sold in attempt to stem the airline's mounting financial losses.  The first 6 aircraft would eventually go to Braniff.  This decal provides the markings for the aircraft as they would have appeared in Pan Am's billboard livery.

HANS, part of Lufthansa, is Lufthansa's low-cost unit based in the heart of Bavaria.  HANS operates a fleet of 6 Airbus A321-100's, each named for a city in Bavaria.  HANS was launched in 2004 with a tremendous advertising campaign simultaneous with Star Alliance partner United's launch of Ted, part of United.  Ted only lasted until 2008, but HANS continues to operate to this day.

Boeing's desperate efforts to prolong the life of the C-17A Globemaster III production line finally yielded fruit when three airlines ordered the civilian version of the cargo aircraft, the BC-17A.  The real surprise of the bunch was FedEx.  The BC-17A order was the culmination of FedEx's efforts to move into the outsized and heavy freight market.  Aircraft are being delivered in the current FedEx colors, featuring a white fuselage, winglets and engine nacelles, with a purple rear fuselage and vertical stabilizer.

In October 1995, Valujet Airlines was the launch customer for the ultimate variant of the venerable Douglas DC-9 family - the McDonnell-Douglas MD-95.  In 1995 Valujet placed an initial order for 50 aircraft plus 50 options.  The MD-95 became the 717 after Douglas merged with Boeing, and Valujet became AirTran who placed the 717 into service in 1999.  Use this decal with the resin 717 kit from RetrokiT.

As Piedmont continued to do well in the years following its successful fending off of a takeoff attempt by USAir, Piedmont Airlines expanded its international network.  To renew its fleet, the airline placed an initial order for 6 Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

An early pioneer of ETOPS operations with its Boeing 767-200 aircraft, TWA (Trans World Airlines) was also an early customer for the Boeing 787-8.  The initial aircraft (15 ordered) were delivered in the airline’s attractive globe scheme.

Seeking to expand its Pacific presence by starting service to smaller markets, Northwest Airlines placed an order for 18 Boeing 787-8's in May of 2005, with purchase rights for 50 more.  The aircraft were to be delivered in Northwest’s metallic silver colors.  Northwest has since been merged with Delta, and eventually, someday Delta will take delivery of the 787 but in Delta's colors.

Having deferred the Northwest Airlines order for 787-8’s that it inherited when the two airlines merged, Delta Air Lines later converted the order to the larger 787-9 variant.  The aircraft allowed Delta to finally phase out its massive 767 fleet.  This set includes a diagram on how to stretch the Hasegawa kit into a 787-9, or you can also use this set on a straight 787-8 build by deleting cabin windows fore and after of the wing.

In keeping with its tradition of launching new types, Pan American joined Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) as the launch customer for Boeing's 787-8 Intercontinental aircraft.  The initial order comprised  ten Rolls-Royce powered aircraft.  Our decal includes all ten Clipper names: Magic Carpet, Star Chaser, Fantasy, Aurora, Xanadu, Enchantment, Spellbinder, Dreamliner, Spirit and Rainbow.

In 2015, Pan American took delivery of its first five Airbus A350-900s.  The aircraft were delivered in Pan Am’s iconic billboard scheme.  The A350 fleet seems to be reviving the Clipper names used in Pan Am’s old A310 fleet.
