The MD90 was the ultimate DC-9 stretch which included high-bypass V2500 engines.  The type only sold 116 copies, and Delta ended up with the vast majority of the type before its retirement in 2020. more info

Originally started as Air Botnia, Blue1 was branded in January 2004 after low-cost competitor Flying Finn ceased operations.  Owned by the SAS Group, Blue1 is also a member of the Star Alliance.  As part of its membership in the Alliance, the airline has painted one of its McDonnell-Douglas MD-90s in the Star Alliance paint scheme.  This MD90 has since left Blue1 and is waiting to be bridged into the MD90 fleet of Delta Airlines. more info

Delta Air Lines was the world’s largest operator of the McDonnell Douglas MD90.  Delta was a launch customer for the MD90 with an order for 10 aircraft.  After the merger with Northwest, Delta acquired a total of 68 additional MD90s from various airlines, thirteen of which were for parts only.  The entire fleet was quickly retired in 2020 along with Delta’s entire MD88 fleet. more info

SAS was one of the very few operators of the MD90 operating eight of the type.  SAS phased out the last MD-90 in the late 1990s with the fleet moving on to Blue1 and Hello, later all of the eight ended up with Delta Air Lines. more info

Japan Airlines 2011 Scheme MD90

In 2011, Japan Airlines introduced new corporate branding and a new
color scheme, bringing back the long-serving crane logo.  Titling
received an updated font as well. This decal provides the markings for
McDonnell-Douglas MD-90  JA8070 which was the only MD-90 JAL repainted.

Begun in 2002, Iceland Express utilized wet-leased aircraft to provide low-fare service to and from Iceland.  Initially, Astraeus, and then later JetX operated the flights, before Hello of Switzerland took over the contract with MD-90s. The four MD-90s were operated in between 2006 and 2008, and all four eventually ended up with Delta Air Lines. more info
