23-year old Chuck Lyford flew this all-white P-51D-25 in the 1964 Harold’s Club Transcontinental Trophy Dash from St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida to Reno Nevada.  After leading the entire race, a serious of events at the end of the race conspired to have Chuck finish 2nd out of the eight P-51s that started the race.  The "Bardahl Special" was unique in this race as Chuck used 150 gallon Skyraider drop tanks to extend his range.  Chuck's "Bardahl Special" also pylon raced at Reno, of course without the drop tanks used in the transcon race..

While never raced, this Hellcat was owned by the colorful owner of Alaska Airlines during the early 1970s.  This decal is printed on the ALPS with beautiful true metallic gold ink.

Owned by the Eberhardt family,  this stock appearing Mustang has been racing at Reno since 1986,  suffering a major incident at Reno in 2006 and has been slowly working it way back to the Gold Race ever since.

R.A. "Bob" Hoover, the Pilot's Pilot, and arguably one of the best stick and rudder aviators in history, flew this stock appearing Mustang at air shows and air races for North American Aviation, later known as Rockwell International.

Owned by C.E. Crosby of Bellingham, WA,  "Mr Choppers " raced at Reno in 1964 and possibly other years.  44-74602 is now owned by Jack Hovey of Ione, CA and is painted in a sharp desert sand / spinach camo scheme.

Mira Slovak flew this all white F8F-2 Bearcat to victory in the very first Reno unlimited race in 1964.  Mira Slovak defected from Czechoslovakia on March 23rd 1953 as a CSA Airlines captain flying his C-47 to freedom in West Germany.  Living in the US, Mira made his living as a crop duster, then went on to race unlimited hydroplanes before being asked to fly this Bearcat owned by Bill Stead in the very first Reno air races.
